Mysterious Ford Performance Vehicle to Debut at Gamescom

Ford Performance Vehicle

A mysterious Ford performance vehicle made its debut at the gaming event in Germany just a few weeks ago. The new vehicle was designed for both drivers and gamers. Given the #Raptormania hashtag, it was fairly obvious which model was ready to steal the show.

The Ford Ranger Raptor made its official debut at Gamescom, marking a new milestone for both gaming and the American automaker. The launch also served to announce that Ford would be bringing the performance truck to Europe.

The truck’s launch at Gamescom had to do with gaming too. Ford announced that it will be adding the mysterious performance truck to an upcoming racing game. Given the Raptor line’s reputation for exhilarating performance, the truck will be a perfect fit.

Although Ford didn’t reveal which racing game the Ranger Raptor will appear in, the answer is pretty obvious. The Ford GT appeared on the cover and as a playable vehicle in Forza 6. That’s led gamers and Forza fans to believe that the Ford Ranger Raptor will strut its stuff in Forza Horizon 4 when it arrives in October.

The digital Ford Ranger Raptor will feature a green-and-black design that matches previous Ford Raptor models. The Ford F-150 Raptor, for example, was available for free in Forza Motorsport 7 earlier this year.

New Ford Focus Offers Pothole Detection Technology

Ford Focus Pothole Detection TechnologyPotholes can make for a bumpy and uncomfortable ride. They can also damage your vehicle, by blowing out tires, cracking wheels, wrecking the alignment, and scraping the bumper.

Unfortunately, potholes are everywhere. In Connecticut, 73 percent of roads have a “poor” condition rating. No matter how sporty the car’s handling, it’s only a matter of time before you encounter this roadside hazard.

However, the 2019 Ford Focus contains technology meant to counter the destructive nature of potholes.

The 2019 Focus features pothole detection technology designed to smooth out the dips, jolts, scrapes, and dings associated with driving across Connecticut’s crater-marked landscape.

The system limits the impact of potholes on the vehicles by sensing the approach of a hole, then adjusting the suspension of the front wheels to decrease the amount of the wheel’s fall. It also sends a signal to the back wheels to prepare the rear suspension for a similar adjustment.

Ford plans to integrate this technology with the Focus model’s Continuously Controlled Damping system, which uses computer-monitored shock absorber technology to create an overall smoother drive. It will be a welcome innovation for Ford fans.

Potholes aren’t going away, but the 2019 Ford Focus is making pothole damage a thing of the past. Test-drive this new model when it arrives on our lot here at Bob Thomas Ford. You can also take your favorite Ford model for a whirl.

Ford Focus Art Installation Inspires Europe

Ford Focus Art Installation

Art comes in many shapes and forms, but it always has a focus. That can certainly be said for the new Ford Focus art installation that is currently making its way around Europe.

The art installation is 20 feet tall and 98 feet long — and despite that length, it is rather simple in design: It is just the word Focus. The complexity comes with its 540 LED video tiles placed along the art display, as well as the artificial intelligence that powers it. That’s right — art is now using artificial intelligence.

So what does this AI do in the Ford Focus art installation? When a passerby approaches in while walking in a major European city, the display will ask him or her what their focus is. With 200 hours of training, the AI knows how to listen to the passerby’s response and provide a personalized video inspired by that response. And, of course, because this artwork is also promotional, the display will educate on the new Ford Focus, which will roll out in Europe later in 2018.

The display has already made its way to Radio City in Milan, Italy. Earlier this month (July 5 through July 7), the display, which took 6,000 hours to build, was at Potters Field in London. The exhibit will display in Berlin before it moves to Madrid at Plaza Mayor.

2020 Ford Mustang Hybrid Will Offer Exhilarating Power and Impressive Efficiency

2020 Ford Mustang

Back in 2017, Ford confirmed plans to introduce a hybrid version of one of the most iconic American vehicles ever produced: the Mustang. While the manufacturer hasn’t revealed much about the 2020 Ford Mustang Hybrid amenities, we can at least speculate about what features this highly anticipated hybrid muscle car will manifest.

One of the only things we’ve been told by Ford about the 2020 Mustang, is that it will have a power output comparable to the current Mustang GT equipped with a V8 gasoline engine. This news comes with a sigh of relief, as we can count on a Mustang Hybrid that delivers the kind of unstoppable performance that makes the Mustang a living legend, and not just a Mustang body sheathing a subpar powertrain.

It’s still unclear exactly how the 2020 Mustang will achieve 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque with a hybrid system. Some have suggested that the 2020 Mustang Hybrid will include a 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Others have guessed that the 2020 Mustang could make use of a mild hybrid system similar to the one the new Ford Focus RS is predicted to have. On the other hand, the 2020 Ford Mustang could use the 5.0-liter V8 or 5.2-liter flat-place crankshaft V8.

No matter what features the 2020 Ford Mustang has, one thing is certain—it will be one of the most exciting updates to the Mustang line in recent history. Test drive one for yourself when it arrives at Bob Thomas Ford. Until then, stop by to experience one of our current Ford offerings.

Ford Previews 2020 Ford Explorer

If you already love the Ford Explorer, you have something to look forward to. At the Beijing Motor Show, Ford gave us a sneak preview of the much-anticipated 2020 Ford Explorer.

Of course, the all-new Explorer hasn’t quite debuted yet. At the show, it was only partially-revealed, its true look concealed by a large drape. However, even this was enough to give us some hints on how the 2020 Explorer will look.

2020 Ford Explorer Teaser

2020 Ford Explorer Teaser

It appears some changes have come along, starting with the front fascia. The model’s profile is a bit broader than the previous generation, hinting at an even more commanding presence. An added roof rack will lend even more utility to the already adventure-friendly Explorer. The roofline is also more raked than the previous version, making for a sleek, sporty look.

It’s not just exterior changes, but additions, too. The 2020 year will see an all-new trim level, the ST model. This new trim will deliver even more powerful performance with an innovative 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine that is set to deliver at least 400 horsepower.

Of course, you won’t be able to see the 2020 Ford Explorer until 2019—but this teaser should hold you over until the actual reveal. In the meantime, stop by Bob Thomas Ford to test drive a 2018 Explorer or your favorite Ford model.

1968 Ford Mustang Joins the Lego Lineup

Ford Mustang Lego

Ford debuted an updated 1968 Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show, but that isn’t all the automaker had in store for the popular muscle car.  Now, Lego and Ford are teaming up to bring one of the most renowned models to kids and adults everywhere. The 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback joined the Lego Speed Champions lineup when it launched on March 1.

“The new Ford Mustang Speed Champions set gives parents and children the chance to share their passions — generations of fans have grown up building Lego sets and spending time together behind the wheel,” said Myra Lind, LEGO Speed Champions marketing manager.

The Lego pony car features a green paint job similar to that found on the new and improved 1968 Ford Mustang Bullitt. The miniature model also features dual gold stripes running from the front bumper to the rear. Gold wheels and race graphic stickers set the tone for the performance-inspired Lego model. Oh, and the Lego driver is wearing a vintage, era-accurate racing suit, just in case you thought the Ford Mustang was somehow lacking in nostalgia.

We here at Bob Thomas Ford love Legos almost as much as we love cars. With the 1968 Ford Mustang arriving in Lego form, automotive and Lego enthusiasts of all ages can add the famous model to their collections.

Car Cleaning Tips for the New Year

The New Year is here, which means it’s the perfect time to spruce up your ride. Even if you aren’t planning on buying a new or new-to-you car in the near future, you can make your current car feel like new with a few simple car cleaning tips.

First, according to BuzzFeed, get a cheap foam brush or paint brush to dust between the AC vents. One quality of new cars that most people notice right away is the smell — one reason you should focus on cleaning the air vents in your car. Dusting carefully with a brush will get rid of any dust or moldy smells. You can also use compressed air to help you get into the cracks.

Magic Erasers

Next, get your hands on a Magic Eraser to rub surfaces like vinyl and fabric. A Magic Eraser is a brand name for a foam sponge made of melamine, a special compound with a sandpaper-like microscopic texture. Just wet with water and scrub any gunk off surfaces in your car.

Have leather? Consider conditioning leather surfaces like the dash with olive oil. You’ll want to avoid conditioning the steering wheel and other surfaces you frequently touch, but you can do it to the dash.

Pet Hair

Finally, get rid of pet hair with a squeegee and spray water bottle. Simply spritz seats with water and scrape with a squeegee. You’ll be surprised how easily fur and hair is lifted off the seats. You can add a vacuum to help collect any stragglers. While cleaning is great, some people may want to have their car serviced as well. For all your car maintenance needs, visit Bob Thomas Ford.

The Ford F-150 Named the 2018 Motor Trend Truck of the Year

Motor Trend Truck of the year - Ford D-150

One of the auto industry’s most coveted titles, “Motor Trend Truck of the Year,” has been bestowed upon none other than America’s most beloved truck since the 1980s: the Ford F-150.

This impressive victory for the Ford F-150 comes thanks to not just one or two, but numerous new improvements to the model, which include a more driver-centric interior, a more intuitive infotainment system, more responsive steering, a more durable and steady chassis, and a hard-to-earn five-star safety rating from the NHTSA.

The Ford F-150 model line underwent a tectonic redesign back in 2015 when it switched from steel to aluminum for its body construction. This significant change dropped 700 pounds, increased fuel efficiency, maximized towing capacity, and limited parts susceptible to rust, making the Ford F-150 a more powerful and long-lasting truck overall.

In the three years since that major change, Ford hasn’t stopped advancing and innovating, which is why it can proudly claim the “Motor Trend Truck of the Year” title today.

At Bob Thomas Ford, we have a full line-up of 2018 Ford F-150s. Visit us to search for your perfect 2018 Ford F-150 pick-up and take a test-drive; our helpful and friendly staff members are here to help.

Winter Travel Tips to Make it to Your Holiday Celebration on Time

Winter Driving Tips

Whether you’re hitting the road or flying to be with friends and family this holiday season, it’s important to plan ahead to ensure a safe journey in winter weather. Ditch the stress this year with these winter travel tips

Pack an Emergency Kit

If you’re traveling by car this winter, be sure to stow some important emergency items in your car so you’re prepared in the event of an emergency. Be sure to pack extra warm clothes, blankets, jumper cables, bottled water, and a cell phone charger. Without these items, getting stranded in the cold can be dangerous.

Make sure your car is road ready

Before you set out in your car, make sure your vehicle is in good enough condition to handle the rigors of winter driving. Be sure to charge your battery, inflate your tires, check all of your lights, and replace your windshield wipers. The last thing you want on your way to your holiday celebration is to get stuck on the side of the road.

Choose less busy airports

If you’re taking a plane this winter, consider opting for a less busy airport. Often, major city airports will be packed around the holidays, so if you’re able to depart from an airport in a smaller city or town, you’ll probably encounter shorter lines.

Winter travel can be stressful, but with a little preparation, you’ll make it to your holiday celebration on time and hassle-free. Visit us at Bob Thomas Ford, and we’ll be happy to get your vehicle holiday-ready.
